Garlic Bread

Jacob ate garlic bread tonight, all on his own! Woohoo!

Chris had made some with soup for dinner (the pre-made kind that you just heat up and is full of a TON of butter). Our babysitter Erin took a piece and Jacob was looking at hers with interest. So, like we normally do when he shows interest in a food, I gave him a piece. I thought he'd look at it for awhile and then toss it on the floor.

Instead he walked around with a smile and then we noticed that he was EATING it! And he came over to me for a second piece! I tried to be very casual about it. Letting him know he's doing something unusual can be the kiss of death for a new food.

It may not seem like a big deal for him to be eating garlic bread...it's not going to be adding much in terms of nutrition to his diet. But it is a NEW FOOD....something very elusive around here! We'll have to see if he'll eat it again. Sometimes he tries a new food here or there but won't eat it again. I'll be saying a prayer!

Besides that, what has his diet looked like today? Ugh:
- Breakfast: Raspberry poptart (a new flavor, and he didn't mind!), reinforced with bites of Nutella. Grape Juice.
- Lunch: Black Pepper Triscuits with cheddar cheese melted on top. He also had some marshmallow Peeps during peer play. And more juice.
- Dinner: Garlic bread, macadamia nuts, and a few frosted animal crackers (used to reinforce the nuts).
- He'll get a full bottle of Pediasure before bed as well. Usually he gets 2-3 bottles, for some reason today he was asking for juice a lot!

As a side note, we've been getting some really nice language from him the past couple of days.

One of the phrases they've been practicing in therapy just to get him used to saying sentences is "Can we walk faster?" and suddenly he's started using this phrase on walks (the IAs try to take him on a 10-minute walk with each session). So his IAs have been running with him when he says it, which he loves. Lots of other little words here and there, too. And he's been relatively funny about some of what he's been saying, too!!

Thanks for your note! Your Sydney is adorable as well. It must be the name. :)

Congrats on the eating victories with your son!

Hurray! It is always so magical when a picky eater just decides to try something. I usually hold my breath and don't watch when Saben does it.
