We feel so blessed to be living in California and to have the cost of Jacob's ABA covered.
Well, we're not at all thrilled about the fact that the government is paying for it...we strongly believe it should be covered by our insurance company. But we know that in most other states, the cost would be coming out of our pocket. At $60,000-$70,000 a year...just for ABA...that's a lot to handle.
Here's a story about how it's affecting one family in St. Louis:

It is outrageous that insurance companies are claiming ABA is an "experimental" treatment, when current research backs it up as a child with autism's best shot at making gains in a variety of areas. In our case, we feel strongly that Jacob wouldn't be speaking at all had he not received early, intensive ABA treatment.

It almost makes me want to move to California. We do have a bill here in PA that passed the House last year and will hopefully get pushed through the Senate this year that would mandate up to $36,000 per year. It's so sad and so incredibly frustrating.
Trish,
I am so frustrated you have to deal with this. Autism is hard enough to handle.
