Busy Monday for Jacob

Yesterday was a whirlwind day!

- Jacob got his speech evaluation done. Did fairly well...I think he tested at 3 years, 3 months for his expressive language, which is actually higher than I expected. I'll be getting a more comprehensive report next week. The speech pathologist noted that she liked how even when he looked like he was tuning out more complicated language, as soon as she would say something that was within Jacob's understanding (like, "Can you count to 15?") he would snap to attention and respond. He hadn't actually tuned out COMPLETELY, as you might expect. So although if you just looked at him, he seemed to be totally zoned out, he actually was filtering the language in a way that he could still pick up anything that was at his level.

- Had a home meeting with Jacob's preschool teacher and an administrator. Jacob was so thrilled his teacher was here! When the teacher told him goodbye, Jacob said, "NO!" and then repeated it when the teacher tried to say goodbye a second time. Then, even though his timer was going off for therapy (which he usually responds to swiftly and immediately, dropping whatever he is doing), he leaned into his teacher for a snuggle/hug. It was adorable.

- Jacob got his stitches out! Yippee! He was scared at first, but I brought along a little mirror and showed him how to watch while the doctor was removing them. He was fascinated and smiled after each one was removed. Afterwards, he said, "More cutting?" and when the doctor left the room he said, "Want more lie down. More cutting?" Guess he thought stitch removal was a pretty amusing... ;)

As a side note, the speech pathologist asked about Sydney and when we talked about her language at this time, she said that she recommends getting her tested. She does seem to have a delay at this point, although of course she could catch right up in a few months. But still we'd rather get some support *early* in case she does have a true delay, rather than wait and see.
