School Log

Jacob got a nice school report today and since I haven't shared one for awhile...here you go!

First Circle:
Today was the first day his IA was more faded out (Usually she is right behind or beside him, for the most part). He "did awesome! He looked back often to check where I was and where his tokens were." He also chose to be the table setter today.

Lunch Time:
The school serves the children lunch. Usually Jacob is asked to put the food on his plate but he doesn't do much with it and eats his own lunch I send from home. Today they started a new program where they are using a special reinforcer (candy bars...which he loves!) to try to get him to taste some of the foods at school, or at least touch them or put them to his lips. Today he touched the flesh of an orange and then licked his finger (woohoo!), and also had a bite of graham cracker (which he normally won't eat...doesn't like the texture). :)

Play Outside:
He "had 5 peers that actively followed him around to each activity. They held his hand, and encouraged him. He only tried to elope once." Awesome! He has started an activity schedule book for outside play time and I've heard that the other kids really enjoy it and want to follow along with him. Cute!

Center Time:
The teaching assistant "had the kids do magic milk again. Jacob leaned far over the table to watch. They put paper in the colored milk to make pictures." His teacher "set up trays with play doh, rocks, and fake hammers. Jacob looked at his peers, copied what they were doing - all independently."

Play Inside:
"Jacob built towers, played with dominoes, and set a table. His reinforcement was going outside. When it was time to go inside, he began to cry. His voice to his friends is getting louder!" That last sentence is so important. Jacob tends to speak with a very quiet voice and we've been working some time on getting him to speak more loudly, especially when asking a peer something or telling someone to give a toy back, etc.

1:1 Instruction:
"He had a perfect quiet mouth today." WOOOOHOOOOO!!! Haven't heard that in...forever!

2nd Circle Time:
Helped the teacher set the table for snack, since he had chosen that as his job for the day.

What a great day! I am so proud of him! And very excited that they are starting to fade his IA back a little bit at school. That's a big step!
